Pine Hardwood Flooring: Installation Guide

Pine hardwood flooring can be a beautiful addition to any home. The material is cheaper than that of most hardwoods, and will last a lifetime. In addition, the installation process is not too difficult, so long as you use precut lumber. Once youve outlined precisely how much material you will need and have bought the precut floorboards, you are well on your way. In this article, we will outline the installation process. 1. Tools / Materials2. Drywall screws3. Shop Vac4. 1 inch finishing nails5. 8d finishing nails6. Hammer7. Saw8. Rosin PaperThe following steps need to be carried out:Step 1 Remove all baseboards and floor trim. Once this is accomplished, you will be able to remove the floor covering and underlayment, revealing the subfloor. Inspect for any squeaky panels and drive drywall screws into the joists directly below them. This acts to tighten and secure the board while eliminating that annoying squeak. Step 2 Roll out the rosin paper onto the subfloor. Start with the wall that is perpendicular to the floor joists. Every six inches, staple it down with 5/16 stables. Make the joists with a straightedge and overlap the rosin paper four to five inches. Continue marking each joist as your move along. Step 3 Evaluate your materials and choose the straightest and longests pine boards for the first row and line them parallel to the longest wall. Give a inch space between the wall and the floorboard. Each end should butt together over the floor joists. Once the first row has been cut and laid out, apply glue in squiggly lines to the board bottoms and nail each into place. Step 4 Predrill each hole into the wood roughly inch from the wall. Be certain that the board is able to get close enough to the wall so the baseboard and trim cover the heads of the nails. Use an 8d finishing nail to secure the board to the subfloor. Step 5 Drive your 1 inch finishing nails through the tongue of each panel at a forty five degree angle. Use a nail set in order to sink the heads 1/8 inch below the surface of the wood. Nail each board down into each joist as a means to secure them. Step 6 Measure the available space for the last row of boards. Allow for to inch of expansion space between the wall and wood. Cut these last boards in order to fit the space. Step 7 Inspect the area to see if it requires any sanding. Many floors do not, but all cases are different. If you decide to go for it, be sure to use a shop vac to clean the dust afterwards. Step 8 Finish your floor with your favorite varnish or stain and allow to dry.

Learn All About Nitro Rc Cars

Learn All About Nitro RC Cars by John LandryOne of the mistakes common to people new to the RC car hobby is assuming that all non-electric RC cars can just run on normal petrol (gasoline). The reason behind this being these types of non-electric RC cars actually are powered by a mixture of methane, nitromethane and oil, commonly called nitro fuel. This can simply be bought at online shops and is also usually a lot more expensive than normal every day petrol. With a Nitro RC you will be investing in Nitro fuel, batteries and every so often some oil will likely be necessary for the shocks and much more after care is essential with a Nitro rc car. There is considerably more maintenance because fuel needs to be drained from the tank each time and you might have to do a visual review to ensure all screws are tight and some basic maintenance after each run, this also applies for petrol rc cars. Don’t let this scare you away though. Think about the maintenance you perform on your real vehicle, it’s not very often is it?Braking in of the engine is quite necessary to maintain the life of the differential along with the car towards it’s maximum life span. Like real cars, an petrol RC car’s differential has many gears which are small and complicated, these are extremely expensive. Careful breaking in of your RC car engine before letting your vehicle loose on full fledged races will greatly help. Run the vehicle at a quarter of the power, with wheels up and running, after which slowly and steadily run it in ‘0’s or ‘8’s. This will set the differential and permit one to run full races with no damage to the engine. However, you can think about a couple of few things before buying any rc vehicle. The most important thing would be to decide where exactly you are going to run your radio control car – on road or off the road? The on road cars would usually run smooth while driving, but not at all on stones, grass or hills. For that purpose, you’ll have to purchase an off road version such as a buggy. The next step for several RC hobbyists will be the Petrol RC car. Petrol RC cars are determined by miniature engines which operate on an petrol and other oils. These cars have become fast having quite insane acceleration. They can reach and fly past with higher speeds than electric cars, whose batteries are constantly running down which suggests less power for speed.Another reason why a great deal of RC model enthusiasts have become partial to these gas remote control cars would be that the high-end ones are not readily available as RTR. These kits allow users to freely select the engine that they require to use in their car and also other gears, for example transmitter and receiver. This is what real RC cars enthusiasts love about buying kits of RC models. There are also Gas Powered RC Buggies which can be called all terrain vehicles because they can run both on-road and off-road. These vehicles are powerful enough to overcome extreme terrain but also fast enough to perform on flat and paved surface. Choosing the best environment because of these sort of vehicles is not a problem since you can run them wherever you need. The tougher suspensions and drive-trains of the buggies and trucks are those which makes them run on all terrains. Please visit my website for similar remote control car articles, and reviews on petrol rc cars as well as nitro.https://petrol-rc-cars.comArticle Source: eArticlesOnline.com

Find The Right Cat Daycare In Everett

 • Click Here For More Specific Information On:
 • Ash Aryal

byAlma Abell

It should go without saying that when it comes to boarding pets, cats have different needs than dogs. As a result, it’s important to find a Cat Daycare in Everett that is specifically tailored to those needs. Not all pet boarding facilities give adequate attention to the specific needs of their feline guests. Below are a few red flags to look out for when evaluating a facility that can help cat owners avoid leaving their pets at the wrong facility.

Cats Boarded With or Close to Dogs

There are reasons for the ages old axiom “fighting like cats and dogs.” The two species do not get along. Even if they are in separate crates or quarters, if cats are quartered nearby where they can easily be terrorized by large and cat-aggressive dogs, it’s bad news. Find someplace that has a dedicated cattery where they will be with other friendly felines and away from the potential terrors of any size of dogs.

Not Enough Space

Cats are independent creatures that require space to themselves. They should be privately boarded at night if they will be kept overnight, and be provided with entertainment during the daytime such as cat trees and toys. Aggressive cats should be kept away from other animals, and the safety and comfort of all feline friends should be accommodated. Each cat should have access to his or her own litter box as well. Rows of cages, shared litter boxes or completely communal space at night are bad signs.

Inadequate Light or Temperature Control

House cats in particular are used to a little bit of luxury. They will certainly not be happy without natural sunlight and consistent temperature. Don’t allow cats to be boarded outside, and ensure that all rooms they are kept in have adequate lighting. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Looking for a Cat Daycare in Everett for daily or long-term boarding? Canine Country Club And Cattery Inc has dedicated space for feline friends away from dogs where they can enjoy the luxuries of home while their owners are away. Comfort and safety are priorities, and owners can even leave their cats’ favorite food to avoid disrupting their meal-time routines.

Most Tokyo power restored after blackout

A power outage hit large parts of Tokyo, and Chiba, Japan. The electrical blackout occurred due to an industrial accident, in which a crane damaged some power lines accidentally at 7:40 AM local time (2240 UTC), the Kyodo News agency reported, quoting Tokyo Power Electric Co. Power was reported to have been restored to most areas within a few hours.

At least two elevators stopped with an unknown number of people trapped inside, said a fire official in Tokyo. Some train services were halted. The number of passengers was lower than normal due to a holiday. About 800,000 residences were affected by the blackout, according to the power company. Most services have since then been restored.

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea delayed opening by an hour as many rides did not function due to the power problems.

Australia’s new controversial workplace regulations come into effect this week

Sunday, March 26, 2006

Australian Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Kevin Andrews

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has urged the federal opposition Labor Party to focus on industrial relations (IR) as significant changes come into force from Monday 27th March. The legislation was passed in a row of controversy by parliament in December last year.

The contentious WorkChoices measures aim to move workers onto a federal industrial relations system and increase to the use of individual workplace contracts – under which conditions such as overtime and penalty rates can be set. The new WorkChoices arrangements include scrapping of unfair dismissal rights; the control by Federal government over state-based IR systems; more encouragement of individual contracts; award-cutting of award rates; secret ballots for industrial action and removal of the no-disadvantage test in new contracts.

The union movement has launched a fresh campaign to protest this week’s changes. ACTU secretary Greg Combet warns that some employees will feel the effects as soon as they come into force, because they will no longer be protected by the previous unfair dismissal laws. He says with the changes becoming enforced this week, the Federal opposition party must now concentrate on industrial relations and not on “political infighting”.

Australia’s Prime Minister, John Howard, says he’s prepared for a union scare-mongering over the IR laws, but assumes the campaign will fail. “I predict the scare campaign will go on,” he said. “I also predict that the scare campaign will fail.” Mr Howard says workers should wait and experience the new system for themselves and that the changes will give workers greater flexibility. “Over time it will be beneficial,” he said.

Greg Combet, Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions

Combet feels different about the effects. “It’s likely, somewhere around Australia tomorrow, someone is going to be sacked unfairly and they’ll be the first victim of the new laws,” he told the ABC. “The really significant thing is that the balance of power in the workplace is shifting sharply to the business community, to the employer.”

Federal Workplace Relations Minister Kevin Andrews told reporters last week that “the sky would not fall, because people would go to work next Monday and not detect any difference.” He described union protests as “hysterical outbursts”. “There is nothing in this legislation that people need to worry about in the ordinary course,” he said.

Despite the Howard government’s increased majority in the Senate, the passing of bill has not been smooth. In November last year, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators rallied across the nation to express dissent of the IR legislation. Ex-Finance Minister, Senator Nick Minchin, said most Australians “violently disagree” with the recent IR changes and there was a real prospect that the High Court could overturn the Work Choices laws.

The HR Nicholls Society, described as one of Australia’s most politically conservative organisations, has likened the new federal laws to the former Soviet system of “command and control.” Society president Ray Evans says he does not like the centralised power being handed to the government under the changes, nor its encroachment on states’ rights.

Evans says the myriad of complex new laws would create a system where “so-called IR professionals would stand to make a lot of money sorting through it… every economic decision has to go back to some central authority and get ticked off,” he said . “There is a lot of that sort of attitude in this legislation and I think it is very unfortunate.”Kemalex Plastics owner Richard Colebatch of the HR Nicholls Society said the changes are “very complicated for anybody to decipher… The professionals will spend a lot of money, the employers’ money, working their way through the mire trying to create the new rules people are going to work towards.”

November 05: 150,000 turnout for Protest in Melbourne

But the Prime Minister says “more jobs will be generated in the small business sector as a result of the removal of the absurd job-destroying unfair dismissal laws, and the greater flexibility for people to make workplace agreements at the enterprise level will lift productivity,” he told reporters in Melbourne. “Sure some people will complain, but a lot of people will benefit through getting job opportunities. Young people, who will get an opportunity to put their step on the bottom rung of the ladder for the first time, will benefit enormously.”

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) said WorkChoices regulations do not go far enough in clarifying who can legally issue medical certificates for sick leave. AMA vice-president Dr Choong-Siew Yong said WorkChoices regulations meant employers and employees faced uncertainty and confusion over sick leave.

“The regulations fail to acknowledge two very serious failings,” Dr Yong said in a statement. “One, if people are seriously ill, they should be seeing their medical doctor. Two, opening up medical certification to a whole range of non-medical practitioners will make it difficult for employers to take sick leave seriously.”

How Do I Find A Good Immigration Lawyer?

By Marcela Devivo

Finding a good lawyer is one of the most important things you can do for yourself if you’re looking for help with immigration issued. As in any other field of law, a good immigration lawyer who knows the ropes and understands every aspect of immigration law is imperative to winning your case, filing your papers, or any other action you pursue.

However, immigration lawyers are not created equal. There are some who excel and others who are terrible and everything in between. The most important thing to think about before you begin your research is whether or not they specialize in their field.

This is important, as an immigration lawyer who specializes in amnesty law may not be the best person to choose for deportation matters, and vice versa. They should have direct experience in their sector of immigration law. Of course, many immigration lawyers have several specialties, so just make sure that, above all, they have experience with cases similar to yours (as well as decent results).

Another thing to check for is background. You can find out what school they applied to, where they took their bar exam, what professional associations they belong to and much more. This is especially important in knowing who is a professional with the license to help you and who just wants your money.

Make sure the immigration lawyer you choose belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). While this isn’t the only indicator of a lawyer’s worth, anyone with legitimate credentials who pays a fee can get in. This weeds out the real fakes and allows you to narrow down your list and focus on reputations.

Reputations, reputations, reputations. This can’t be stressed enough. If a lawyer has been in the news a lot for positive cases, serves as a source for newspapers or anything similar, you can bet they’re pretty good at what they do.

References and a successful track record are a must. If you can, get your hands on some references and do some research online. Forums, chat rooms and the like are great places to find valuable information about the lawyer you’re looking into. The internet is a powerful tool and is one of your best friends when looking for a good immigration lawyer.

Remember: knowledge is power. Ask lots of questions and don’t be afraid to grill your potential lawyer. You’re the client, and have every right to know if your lawyer knows their stuff. Come prepared knowing a little about immigration law, or at least the basics, and an understanding of the services you need for yourself. For example, if you’re dealing with deportation, look up US deportation laws and familiarize yourself with them enough that you understand what your lawyer’s saying.

Wikinews interviews 2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor Candidate Wayne Tseng

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Thursday, October 22, 2020

2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor candidate Wayne Tseng answered some questions about his campaign for the upcoming election from Wikinews. The Lord Mayor election in the Australian city is scheduled to take place this week.

Portrait of Wayne TsengImage: Wayne Tseng.

Tseng runs a firm called eTranslate, which helps software developers to make the software available to the users. In the candidate’s questionnaire, Tseng said eTranslate had led to him working with all three tiers of the government. He previously belonged to the Australian Liberal Party, but has left since then, to run for mayorship as an independent candidate.

Tseng is of Chinese descent, having moved to Australia with his parents from Vietnam. Graduated in Brisbane, Tseng received his PhD in Melbourne and has been living in the city, he told Wikinews. Tseng also formed Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce, an organisation responsible for many “community bond building initiatives”, the Lord Mayor candidate told Wikinews.

Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.

Tseng’s deputy Lord Mayor candidate Gricol Yang is a Commercial Banker and works for ANZ Banking Group.

Currently, Sally Capp is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the Victorian capital. Capp was elected as an interim Lord Mayor in mid-2018 after the former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations. Doyle served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for almost a decade since 2008.

Four Things To Consider Before Buying New Cookware}

Submitted by: Susan Barnes

For numerous reasons, many of us come to a point where we need or want to purchase new cookware for our kitchen. This seems like a simple task, but when you see the number of choices that are available today, it quickly becomes clear that making a choice may be much easier said than done. There are numerous things to consider when choosing new cookware. Let’s look at four of the most important consideration.

The first thing to consider is the type of cooktop or range that you will be using. All cookware types can be used on standard gas or electric ranges. However, ranges or cooktops with a glass top need cookware with a smooth bottom to avoid scratches in the glass. Cast iron cookware is not recommended for glass top ranges. Induction cooktops require cookware made from material that is magnetic. It should be noted that due to variations in metal content not all stainless steel is magnetic. If you need cookware for an induction cooktop, confirm with the manufacturer or on the package that the product is induction ready. Another way to confirm if cookware will function on an induction cooktop is to see if a magnet will firmly attach to the bottom of the pan.

The type of material used to make the cookware is also an important consideration. Stainless steel, cast iron, copper, glass and aluminum cookware are all readily available. Stainless steel cookware is a durable, easy care option and is often dishwasher safe. It provides even heating and does not react with foods. Cast iron is excellent at maintaining heat, meaning once the pan is hot, it stays hot. Most new cast iron cookware comes pre-seasoned and does not require that the cook go through the seasoning process before the first use. Copper is the best heat conductor. However, unlined copper cookware may react with some acidic foods such as tomato sauce, causing a bitter taste. Stainless steel pans may have copper bottoms, adding the excellent conductivity of copper to the non-reactive properties of stainless steel. Glass cookware is attractive and allows you to see what’s cooking, even with the lid in place. It also moves easily from stove top to oven or microwave or to the freezer. Oxidized aluminum cookware is light weight, conducts heat well and doesn’t rust. Raw aluminum pots and pans reacts with ingredients such as tomatoes, greens and citrus, discoloring the foods. Most aluminum cookware in the market today had been manufactured with an aluminum oxide coating that greatly diminishes these issues.

Another consideration is the weight of the pans. It’s important to think not just of the weight of the pan alone but also much it will weight when it’s full of food. Cast iron cookware and glass are the heaviest while aluminum is the lightest. Stainless steel and copper are heavier than aluminum but much lighter than cast iron. If possible, it’s a great idea to handle potential new cookware prior to making a purchase to test the weight and feel of the pans.

Last, but certainly not least, it’s important to consider the care required to maintain your new cookware. Stainless steel is relatively easy to clean, in many cases it is dishwasher safe. Glass and oxidized aluminum are also easy care, check manufactures instructions for details as some may be dishwasher safe. Cast iron cookware requires more attention. It needs to be cleaned and dried completely to avoid rust. It’s recommended that cast iron cookware be stored with the lid off to allow any remaining moisture to evaporate. Copper requires regular polishing to maintain its beautiful shine and even heat conductivity.

Although, the above are some important considerations when purchasing new cookware, these are not the only things to think about. Additional considerations such as cost, appearance, and personal preference will also play a part in the final decision.

Nigerian anti-corruption officials arrest former governor James Ibori

Friday, December 14, 2007

Nigerian police arrested former Delta State governor James Ibori Wednesday on charges of abuse of office, corruption, and money laundering.

According to a statement by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibori was picked up at a private residence in the Asokoro District of Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja. Ibori was to be arraigned yesterday at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. He is facing a total of 103 charges.

James Ibori had been governor of Delta for the past eight years, until leaving office in May, 2007. Although he earned a modest US$25,000 per year as governor, he had reportedly accumulated more than $35 million in foreign accounts. Ibori’s UK assets have been frozen while the Metropolitan police investigate further. Should the money be deemed the proceeds of crime, it could be transferred back to the Nigerian government.

Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua was elected in May on a platform of battling corruption in the government. Since taking office, Yar’Adua has overseen the arrest of five other former governors on corruption offences. James Ibori had supported the president in his election bid.

Law enforcement officials and anti-corruption advocates in the UK and Nigeria have complained that the Nigerian attorney-general was interfering and slowing down investigations. The attorney-general, Michael Aondoakaa, has denied the allegations.

In a December, 2007 paper by the global corruption watchdog Transparency International, entitled Report on the Transparency International Global Corruption Barometer 2007, Nigeria was determined to have one of the highest rates of corruption, evaluated as a percentage of citizens reporting they paid a bribe to obtain a service.
