International participants showcase different industry cultures at 2008 Taipei Game Show

Friday, January 25, 2008

B2B Trade Area of Taipei Game Show, criticized by trade buyers last year, but accompanied with 2008 Taiwan Digital Content Forum, moved to the second floor at Taipei World Trade Center for world-wide participants with a better exchange atmosphere this year.

Not only local OBMs (Softstar Entertainment, Soft-World International Corp., International Games System Corp., …, etc.) but also companies from New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea showcased different specialists with multiple styles. Especially on South Korea, participated members from G? Trade Show (Game Show & Trade, All-Round, aka Gstar) showcased gaming industry of South Korea and the G? upcoming at this November with brochures.

In the 2-days Digital Content Forum, world-class experts not only shared industry experiences, members from Taiwan Gaming Industry Association also discussed and forecasted marketing models for gaming industry. With participations from governmental, industrial, and academical executives world-wide, this forum helps them gained precious experiences of digital content industry from several countries.

According to the Taipei Computer Association, the show and forum organizer, the digital content industry in Taiwan was apparently grown up recent years as Minister of Economic Affairs of the Republic of China Steve Ruey-long Chen said at Opening Ceremony yesterday. Without R&Ds from cyber-gaming, and basic conceptions from policies and copyright issues, this (digital content) industry will be fallen down in Taiwan. If this industry wanted to be grown up in sustainability, gaming OBMs in Taiwan should independently produce different and unique games and change market style to market brands and games to the world.

News services and web companies increase Farsi services in light of Iranian political situation

Friday, June 19, 2009

Several organizations have increased their Farsi services in the wake of the events surrounding the recent presidential election. Google has added Farsi-to-English translation as one of its translation options to its Google Translate service. Similarly, Facebook has launched a Farsi version of its web site. The BBC has increased the number of broadcasting satellites that it uses for its Farsi news channel, BBC Persian Television.

Google’s translation services currently only provide translation from Farsi to English. Franz-Josef Och stated that this was to enable people in Iran to communicate directly via the Internet with the outside world, saying “Like YouTube and other services, Google Translate is one more tool that Persian speakers can use to communicate directly to the world, and vice versa — increasing everyone’s access to information.”. The company states that it is working to provide translation between Farsi and the other 40 languages that it provides on its Translate service.

Facebook’s Farsi version of its web site, which is still marked as a beta-test version, was launched rapidly, with, the company states, the assistance of more than 400 Farsi speakers who submitted translations of the contents of the site.

Both companies state that their reasons for expanding their services are to promote communication, and are not politically motivated.

The BBC has increased the number of broadcasting satellites that it uses for broadcasting its Farsi news channel. This is, it states, in response to signal jamming of its broadcasts by the Iranian government. (The Iranian government accuses BBC Persian Television, which is funded by the British Foreign Office, of being a propaganda service for the British Government.) It states that its broadcasts on the Hot Bird 6 satellite had been aggressively jammed, and that therefore it was now also broadcasting from the Eutelsat W2M satellite, and planned to start broadcasting from Nilesat as well in the near future.

Choosing A Resume Distribution Service

By Jason Kay

The internet has created many new opportunities for people who are searching for jobs. Internet job boards such as Monster.com and others allow employers to list their jobs online allowing applicants to apply for the job in one easy step. While job boards are very useful, they do have one major drawbackthey draw a lot of applicants. That means competition that makes it harder to obtain the job you want.

There are other options. In recent years, resume distribution service companies began offering their services to job hunters around the world. For a fee, these businesses will distribute your resume to job boards and company recruiters by e-mail or fax. They can target your industry in most cases making the chances even higher that you will get an interview.

Some resume distribution services offer their services for free, while others charge a fee. The fees range from $39 all the way up to $89. They will all distribute your resume to recruiters using various methods of delivery. Certain industries can be targeted for a higher fee.

Before you engage the services of one of these resume distribution companies, it would be wise to consult with them by phone first if possible. Before you sign up with any company, make sure you find out what they do with your personal information. In other words, how hard is it to you remove your resume from their site if you decide that action is necessary? Find out how they get the information about job openings. Do they send your resume to recruiters that have known job openings? Do they get their leads off job boards such as Monster.com? Will they be targeting your specific industry? Will they send your resume out by blast fax where hundreds or even thousands of companies will receive your resume?

Here are a few resume distribution services that I like:

ResumeSpider.comthis company has been in the resume distribution service since 1999. According to this company’s website, their methods are more effective because they create a targeted distribution network for you. All recruiters that receive your resume are subscribers to the service. They connect job seekers with companies in a similar way that mainstream dating websites help people find a spouse. Their proactive approach will save you weeks or months of your own time in creating a desired list of employers and recruiters. Their prices start at $39.95 for the standard package, and you can save 10% by using the promo code 961326.

myResumeAgentwebsite has a lot of useful information about job searches and resume writing. The distribution service allows you to instantly send your resume, connect with recruiters, and get more interviews for $47.95. One nice thing about this company is that they allow you to customize your e-mail before it is sent. You can also make your personal information confidential to avoid privacy problems.

Gadballthis company offers free distribution to sites that you choose. If you have to make changes to your resume, they are instantly sent out to the job boards. You retain complete control over your resume, which makes this one our absolute favorite.

Resume distribution services will never replace good old-fashioned job searching methods. You still need to network with other people and send your resumes for job openings that you hear about.

Telstra becomes the first in the world to switch to HSPA+ wireless Internet technology

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

On Monday, Australian telecommunications company Telstra has introduced dual carrier HSPA+ standard for broadband Internet business customers in the Next G network. This is the first time this technology is being introduced on national scale. The bandwidths the users can deploy increased into two to three times, with Telstra becoming the world’s fastest national mobile broadband service. The switch started with enabling the service for premium users. After some feedback, Telstra may expand the plan.

The higher speeds for wireless are intended to simplify and ease multitasking of users.

John Paitaridis, Telstra’s executive director, network products and services in Enterprise & Government, said “One of the reasons we decided to launch first to Enterprise And Government and Business customers is that clients are saying that their ability to access applications quicker makes a difference to their business and when they start to equate time savings and doing calculations around productivity it does become a return on investment.”

Telstra Business Group Managing Director Deena Shiff also stated that the efforts aren’t as sudden as it might seem, having feedback of many users as the base.

Australians are telling us they can’t afford to be tied to the desk all day and these new speeds mean they can now access mobile broadband at speeds typically reserved for the office. We have been deploying the high-speed capability in the network since December 2009 and now, with the launch of the new Ultimate USB Modem, these new speeds are available to customers across all capital city CBDs and associated airports, selected metropolitan areas and in more than 100 regional locations. These high-speed zones cover approximately 50 per cent of the Australian population and match the areas of highest customer demand and will make the frustration of waiting around for files to download a thing of the past. In other metropolitan and regional areas, the Telstra Ultimate USB Modem offers typical download speeds ranging from 550kbps up to 8Mbps… Our customers have told us that they want higher speed mobile broadband so they can work more flexibly outside of the office and we are delighted to be the first in the world to offer these new blistering speeds on a national network. The new Telstra Ultimate USB Modem provides customers with the speeds needed to handle large files, multi-task and update cloud-hosted applications effortlessly on the go when they are in a coverage area.

Previous modems were able to reach peak speed 21Mbps, with real life speeds ranging from 0.5Mbps to 8 Mbps. The theoretically expected maximum of the new technology is 42Mbps with user speeds varying between 1.1 and 20 Mbps. The new speed is twice as fast. This is caused by that the dual-carrier “Evolved High-Speed Packet Access” technology allows networks to send and receive wireless data using two channels simultaneously. This technology can be deployed on Next G networks. Telstra switched to them in February, thus making the switch to HSPA possible now.

Telstra delayed the implementation of the new technology until elections end. This decision was intended to avoid wrong interpretation of them by Coalition. Coalition’s claims include that wireless networks can be an alternative to the Labor party “fibre-to-the-home” proposal to introduce more expensive wired Internet. The announcement of the new technology, initially planned on August 25, was delayed, with Telstra spokesman Craig Middleton explaining, “We just didn’t want to feel like we were influencing the [telecommunications] debate.”

The political parties have different plans on development and funds on the Internet. The Labor party aims to spend AUD 43 billion to bring 1 Gbps wired Internet nationwide, and the Coalition plans to spend AUD 6 billion to introduce a variety of improvements including upgrade of existing copper Internet as well as expansion of wireless Internet to support 12Mbps. Opposition leader Tony Abbott has said in the past that Australians shouldn’t assume wireless technologies won’t ever be comparable to fixed-line technology. Telstra’s upgrade shows that wireless broadband is reaching the 100 Mbps minimum speeds promised by Labor’s national broadband network.

Telstra has only 2000 devices which support the new technology. This is why the opportunity to try it out is being given only to the Business plan customers, and they receive it for the same price as they were paying for the previous NextG plan. Since October 5, the device will be available for sale, with the Business customers able to buy it with 75% discount and a prepaid data allowance. The upgrade is expected to cover roughly 50% of the population. This is happening at the same time as one of Telstra’s competitors Vodafone is doubling data download quotas on mobile cap plans.

As some testing showed, real life download speeds reached only about the half of the maximum. Telstra executive director of wireless Mike Wright explained that the predicted figures were the estimates, with real life speeds lower due to interfering environmental conditions: “It’s possible to achieve better than the typical user speed claims, but those claims occur in the ideal network environment with good signal quality. When you’re out on the streets you get a lot of variation where the network is subject to signal quality, your location and the network load.”

Deciding To Get A Rhinoplasty

Deciding to Get a Rhinoplasty

by

Heather Burke

While there many be plenty of jokes out there about young women who get nose jobs for birthday and bat mitzvah presents, the truth is that there are plenty of different reasons that a rhinoplasty might be an important decision to make. For someone who is concerned about troubles with breathing or appearance after any kind of accident, a proper rhinoplasty might be required to help out with whatever surgery was initially important. After all, being sure to have something done quickly makes a lot of sense, because getting a proper surgeon who cares more about appearance after a car accident or any other trouble can be a crucial move in ensuring that one\’s face looks great. And whether it\’s in Los Angeles for strictly cosmetic reasons or in San Jose, Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures done in the United States each year.

This should make those considering the procedure breathe a sigh of relief, as its relative normalcy means that finding the right person to perform the surgery is not going to require a world of research. Most skilled plastic surgeons can handle a rhinoplasty, and these days, more innovative techniques require less invasive surgical procedures. This means that the patients will find themselves able to go home sooner, rather than later, and less points of entry for surgical devices means that there will be less areas where scarring might be an issue. While it\’s difficult to describe any kind of surgery as nonintrusive, the latest techniques in the world of plastic surgery definitely make recovering quicker and noticing that any work was done in the first place next to impossible.

For anyone considering

San Jose Rhinoplasty

, it is first important to manage expectations. While it is possible to have type of nose reshaped, it is also going to be a surgical procedure that requires proper care and rest time afterwards. Those who are in an active world, like anyone involved in athletics or anyone raising a young child, should consider how important it will be to stay away from any activities that could cause stress or jolts to a recently operated-upon nose. After all, the post-surgery healing time is a crucial moment for things to go well, and it\’s important to keep to the bed rest recommended by a doctor, too, rather than making the choice to get out there and run around too quickly after surgery is over with.

It\’s also a good idea for those who are having a rhinoplasty done to double-check that a loved one will be available to drive him or her home after the surgery, as the medicine used to sedate patients is the kind of medicine that makes driving or taking care of one\’s self afterward next to impossible. It\’s also important to pay attention to the fact that actually taking the time to rest is a crucial part of recovery. Do not try to be up and about unless specifically instructed by a doctor that this is an acceptable choice, or else it might result in complications. Like any other kind of surgery, this is one that requires the proper amount of rest and recovery time, and even though recovery times are quicker than ever, it\’s still crucial to actually stay still so that your body can heal.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/OH-WY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

The Effect Of Love Graphics

Francis K Githinji

Why do women appear wearing bras and bikini all over in the pictures on the wall? It is because love graphics are appealing to the eye. Men especially are easily turned on sexually by women who are almost naked. They fancy watching picture and it gives them satisfaction. It might sound funny to watch a mere love graphic and get turned on by a graphic. They are there in all age brackets. That is the power of pornography. You get addicted to watching pornography because the power of sight is so strong it is unbelievable. This is why we work very hard to acquire attractiveness. Women can go to greater extents to achieve beauty. Some of the procedures are painful and risky but if they guarantee beauty they are considered worth trying.

Plastic surgery and bleaching are not very good procedures but women are ready to exchange beauty for anything. Physical attractiveness is a major confusing factor. Men fall for it. Who does not want to marry a beautiful woman? Every man wants to but it is not advisable. To marry one, you are inviting trouble. Just some piece of advise, there are two things you should close your eyes while choosing one is a wife while another one is a horse. Love graphics are very important. For example a photo for a loved one is a pure love graphic. There are some teenagers who cannot sleep without having a photo of their lover under the pillow. This is because a graphic says more than a million words. It provokes emotions which would not have otherwise featured anywhere. Love graphics can also be the wall hanging of the famous celebrities. Most of them love posing almost naked. They sing songs which speak to the bottom most part of the heart. They really stand for love icons and whenever they are hanged on the wall they represent love. Love is a theme which surrounds most settings. A family setting or church setting should be full of love. A love graphic of Jesus Christ hanged on every house or church signifies the religion. It softens the situation especially the hard talks in between the spouses. If you are a couple and you love the lord, when you are in between heated arguments, you are more likely to be cooled down by the sight of the humble picture of Jesus Christ. Have you ever been so down in your relationship but when you looked at the old photos you took together sometime back together you smile helplessly? I know you identify with the situation. You will be surprised by what love graphics can do. They help revive passionless marriages. Memories have a way of bringing back dead and forgotten feelings. A love that was once there is very easily shaken back. If you want to rediscover love make it a habit of having old photos with your possession. A family album is very important in a family setting. Make sure you take photos very often in order to help you during sad times.

BBC drops programmes as third of staff join strike

Monday, May 23, 2005

The staff of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) have entered a one-day strike this morning in dispute of impending job cuts and partial privatisation.

The industrial action follows union ballots at three of the leaders of journalism and broadcasting: Amicus, National Union of Jounalists and BECTU. The NUJ have already described the action as an “astonishing success” and its general secretary, Jeremy Dear, describes the union as “absolutely delighted with the level of support we have received for the strike.” The unions expect 11,000 of 27,000 BBC staff to take part in the strikes.

Due to the extensiveness of the strike it has affected the output of the BBC on its television and radio services. News and live services have been particularly badly affected following the unions aims to leave “blank screens and dead air”.

BBC Radio 4‘s Today, The World at One, PM and The World Tonight have all been cancelled; BBC One‘s 1 O’Clock News and 6 O’Clock News was shortened from half an hour to 15 minutes, although the 10 O’Clock News was unaffected. Live programming of BBC News 24, BBC World and Five Live have been extensively cut; and international output on the World Service has been impacted.

The most noticeable impact have been on the Breakfast programme, headed by just one presenter (against the usual two) and cut short for a pre-recorded interview. The leading serious news magazine programme, Newsnight, was also cancelled.

Some BBC radio celebrities appeared for work on their shows despite the strike. These include breakfast radio presenters Chris Moyles of BBC Radio 1, Terry Wogan of BBC Radio 2, and Shelagh Fogarty of BBC Radio 5.

Unlike a similar 1989 strike in which presenter Nicholas Witchell crossed the pickets to read news, those presenters who have decided to continue their positions have not been publicly denounced.

Striking staff have been picketing outside the main entrances of the BBC Television Centre in west London.

The strikes have occurred following the Corporation’s plans to cut 3780 jobs and privatise parts of the national service. It has claimed that these cuts are necessary to spend more on programming when they were announced in March by governing director Mark Thompson. The cuts aim to make savings of GBP 355 million (US$663.37 million, EUR 487 million ).

Unions have defied calls by BBC executives to partake in consultations over impending actions. The unions have responded by claiming that consultations would give their staff little say and that negotiations are the only way in which they will be listened to.

The ballot to strike which was held on May 12 also determined to strike for 48 hours on May 31 and June 1. It is unclear if any further action is planned.

New method of displaying time patented

Saturday, October 14, 2006

An American inventor has patented a pair of new time formats with a footprint less than 50% of that of conventional four-digit time. The more unusual of the two new formats, called “TWELV”, dispenses with numerals altogether. In place of clock hands or digits, the new clock uses color to convey the hour and a moon image to convey the minute, which moon slowly grows throughout the course of an hour from a narrow crescent to a full-fledged circle.

The second and more approachable of the new formats retains numerical digits to indicate the minute but uses colors to convey the hour.

Early critics question whether the aesthetic benefits of the moon-clock will be sufficient to encourage users to learn the color-based time-telling system. However, the size advantages of the new system may make it particularly suitable for mobile applications, particularly cell phones, wearable computers, and head-mounted displays.
