17 million accounts’ hashed passwords, emails stolen, Zomato says

Friday, May 19, 2017

Yesterday, Zomato, a food ordering and restaurant finding company, announced security breach of more than 17 million accounts, via their official blog. A hacker operating under the alias nclay uploaded evidence to prove they had the stolen data — hashed passwords and emails — for sale, Hackread.com reported. Zomato later announced they contacted the hacker, who asked Zomato to organise a bug bounty programme.

The food ordering company, with 120 million monthly users, said the payment information of the users was not located with this data and was not leaked. Zomato said it uses PCI Data Security Standards.

As a security measure, all the passwords of the involved Zomato accounts were reset and all of the accounts were forcibly logged out from the application and website. The company said only hashed passwords were compromised.

Hashed passwords are encrypted and, per Zomato, every password had a different “salt”, for cryptographic salting was performed before hashing the original password. A “salt” is a random set of characters added before encryption to make decryption to obtain the original passkey more difficult.

The hashed password itself can not be used to access the account. In the blog post before contacting the hacker, saying “internal (human) security breach”, Zomato suggested this could have happened after a worker’s development account was hijacked. After contacting the hacker, and promising a bug bounty programme on Hackerone, they said, the hacker agreed and removed the stolen data which was put on sale on the dark web. Zomato said they are looking forward to working closely with the ethical hacker community on security vulnerabilities.

If you are a proud car owner, you should never hold back when it comes to maintenance of your car. You should be extra cautions about auto care as the performance of your car will depends on it.

The first tip is to get the right fuel. Refer the manual on what grade of fuel applies to your car. Get that grade of fuel that is appropriate for your car. But remember, additional fuel don’t help so avoid topping off the fuel tank of your car as it will only seep out and be a cause of money wastage. Always tighten the car fuel tank cap to avoid the fuel from evaporating from its tank from your car. New cars In India need to be sun screened as the heat of summer sun zap the fuel from the fuel tank. Never let your car bake under the summer sun and avoid fuel being evaporated in the form of evaporative emission. Purchase windshield shade if possible. AC and defroster eat up fuel while driving. Bring the usage of these machines to a minimum to save fuel. Take care of the tyres of your car and pump up regularly. Underinflated tyres have low pressure and tend to wear away fast, lesser the fuel mileage of your car as well as provide resistance and exerts pressure on car engine to keep up with the speed of your car which is quite harmful. You should check the pressure of the car tyre every month. But check it when the tyres are cold especially in the morning hours when the car was not in use for more than 8 to 10 hrs and compare it with what is recommended in the car manual. Car engine should be kept in tune to avoid increasing the fuel mileage. Fix those worn out spark plugs to sustain with the efficiency of the car fuel. Air filter of the car engine should be free from all forms of clogs or dirt and dust. Try to change the air and oil filters of your car more than once every year to make your car fuel-efficient.

Four dead, at least 15 injured after gunman opens fire at fitness center in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Four people have been shot and killed and at least 15 wounded when a gunman opened fire inside a LA Fitness center in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. The gunman was among the dead.

Reports say the man walked into a dance room where an all-female Latin dance class was in session, turned off the lights and began to shoot people. CNN reports that the gunman was a “middle-aged white male.” One witness said he was carrying a duffel bag, which he put down before shooting into the crowd. After opening fire, he turned the gun on himself. At least 30 people are reported to have been in the room at the time of the shooting.

Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said, “I’ve never seen nothing quite like this. It was very chaotic. […] There’s a good belief that the shooter is deceased.”

Collier Township Police Chief Tom Devin stated that the police, “believe the shooter committed suicide at the scene but we’re not positive.” Police report that the shooter’s motive may have been a domestic dispute with one of the exercisers.

Mike Hentosz, a witness who was inside the gym, said, “I feel like it’s a dream. I don’t know what to think of it.” A woman participating in the class, Nicole, said that 10 minutes into the class, “a middle-aged white male walked into the class. He had a big gym bag. […] He looked out of place in a class full of women.” When he began firing, she reported, she ran out of the gym and escaped in passerby’s car.

byAlma Abell

If you want to achieve your objectives in Texas duck hunting, you may need to observe some tips to apply in the game. Like any game, perfection does not come at once. You have to work your way up the ladder to achieve a professional level. The following are some of the tips you may apply in your duck hunting adventure in Texas, to achieve a professional level. Although you may not have the best duck calling skills, these tips may help you achieve your goals.

* Keep your calling simple: Keep your sounds simple. Real life experiences in duck hunting reveal that sounds you see in duck hunting competitions are only meant to please judges and not actually applicable in the field. Therefore, for successful hunting of the greenheads, it is advisable to keep your calls simple, strategic and to the point.* Start on a low note and work up: With calm and steady voice, you are likely to lure your way as many ducks as possible. If you want to achieve better results in Texas duck hunting, you may need to learn what sort of voice to apply in a given situation. However, in some situations, you may need to apply a stern voice. A rule of thumb is to begin on a softer note and increase gradually.* If you are hunting in a group, it is advisable to choose your group leader to guide others to make contented sounds. This helps in reducing overcalling or making too many aggressive sounds. Quacks, feed chatter, and drake whistling are the major sounds to learn in duck hunting.* Mimic their language. This is important in duck hunting, as the ducks are more likely to get attracted to a given place if they hear a sound like one of their own. If you can learn to blow a sound like theirs, you can attract them without much difficulty.

These tips, together with others not mentioned here, mare important if you are considering Texas duck hunting. Your ability to draw the ducks to your direction and make a shot is important in the whole adventure. Beginners as well as professionals find these tips helpful. In the end, the destination you choose to carry out your activity also plays a role in the whole adventure. In Texas coastal gulf, there are many facilities to choose from.

Surgeons reattach boy’s three severed limbs

Tuesday, March 29, 2005A team of Australian surgeons yesterday reattached both hands and one foot to 10-year-old Perth boy, Terry Vo, after a brick wall which collapsed during a game of basketball fell on him, severing the limbs. The wall gave way while Terry performed a slam-dunk, during a game at a friend’s birthday party.

The boy was today awake and smiling, still in some pain but in good spirits and expected to make a full recovery, according to plastic surgeon, Mr Robert Love.

“What we have is parts that are very much alive so the reattached limbs are certainly pink, well perfused and are indeed moving,” Mr Love told reporters today.

“The fact that he is moving his fingers, and of course when he wakes up he will move both fingers and toes, is not a surprise,” Mr Love had said yesterday.

“The question is more the sensory return that he will get in the hand itself and the fine movements he will have in the fingers and the toes, and that will come with time, hopefully. We will assess that over the next 18 months to two years.

“I’m sure that he’ll enjoy a game of basketball in the future.”

The weight and force of the collapse, and the sharp brick edges, resulted in the three limbs being cut through about 7cm above the wrists and ankle.

Terry’s father Tan said of his only child, the injuries were terrible, “I was scared to look at him, a horrible thing.”

The hands and foot were placed in an ice-filled Esky and rushed to hospital with the boy, where three teams of medical experts were assembled, and he was given a blood transfusion after experiencing massive blood loss. Eight hours of complex micro-surgery on Saturday night were followed by a further two hours of skin grafts yesterday.

“What he will lose because it was such a large zone of traumatised skin and muscle and so on, he will lose some of the skin so he’ll certainly require lots of further surgery regardless of whether the skin survives,” said Mr Love said today.

The boy was kept unconscious under anaesthetic between the two procedures. In an interview yesterday, Mr Love explained why:

“He could have actually been woken up the next day. Because we were intending to take him back to theatre for a second look, to look at the traumatised skin flaps, to close more of his wounds and to do split skin grafting, it was felt the best thing to do would be to keep him stable and to keep him anaesthetised.”

Professor Wayne Morrison, director of the respected Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery and head of plastic and hand surgery at Melbourne’s St Vincent’s Hospital, said he believed the operation to be a world first.

Nigerian jet attacks refugee camp, killing dozens

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

A Nigerian Air Force jet fighter mistook refugees for rebels yesterday, Nigerian military said, firing on a camp in Rann, Borno State. Dozens of refugees and aid workers died.

The lowest estimate from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is of 50 dead. The BBC estimates at least 52 dead, while one Borno State official is attributed by AP as saying over 100 are dead. MSF say at least 200 were wounded.

The Red Cross said at least six of its staff died and twelve more injured. The impoverished region, in the northeast of the nation, has suffered severe famine as conflict interrupts agriculture. Farmers are unable to work owing to bombs on their land. The Red Cross said volunteers were at the camp, home to thousands, to distribute food.

The military said the Air Force was dispatched to deal with “remnants” of the Boko Haram militant group, which it claims to be in a final push against. Major General Leo Irabor, who led the operation, said, “Unfortunately, the strike was conducted but it turned out that other civilians were somewhere around the area and they were affected”. Irabor said two soldiers were amongst the dead and others were wounded.

Military spokesman General Rabe Abubakar said the military are “all in pain” after the disaster, adding “in a military operation such as this, from time to time these things do occur.” Irabor promised an investigation. President Muhammadu Buhari said he was saddened by “this regrettable operational mistake” and sought calm.

“This large-scale attack on vulnerable people who have already fled from extreme violence is shocking and unacceptable,” MSF operational chief Dr Jean-Clément Cabrol said. The Red Cross said it has staff and facilities ready in neighbouring Cameroon and Chad to assist. “The whole camp is controlled by the army and no one can come in or out without being checked,” said MSF head of emergencies Hugues Robert. Robert added the group knew travel and work in the area was dangerous, and took precautions.

Helicopters have been evacuating the wounded, including a United Nations helicopter which brought four medical personnel and 400kg (900lb) of emergency medical aid, and left with eight wounded Red Cross workers. The UN is in the midst of an appeal for aid to the famine-hit region.
