Drag—dressing in the clothing atypical of your born gender—in recent years has found mainstream success. Films such as Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar have prominently featured drag performers. But they have all focused on men in drag as women.

Murray Hill is a comedian, emcee and performer. He is also a drag king. Called “The Hardest Working Middle-aged Man in Show Business”, The New York Times christened him “the current reigning patriarch of the downtown performance community.” He is seemingly everywhere, emceeing a bingo night at the now closed, Jimmy Fallon-backed Mo Pitkins’ House of Satisfaction on Avenue A, or hosting the Polyamorous Pride Day in Central Park. Hill has become a legend in New York’s “anything goes” counterculture theater scene who is beginning to find mainstream success; which would be a first for a drag king.

David Shankbone’s examination of New York City‘s culture has brought him to the whip’s end of a BDSM dungeon, on the phone with RuPaul, matching wits with Michael Musto, grilling Gay Talese, eating dinner with Augusten Burroughs and quizzing the bands that play the Bowery Ballroom. Eight Californians seriously ill after eating live shellfish

Eight Californians contracted a rare lung infection after eating live sawagani crabs at several southern California restaurants.

The freshwater crabs, also known as river or regal crabs, were purchased in several restaurants, including Riptide Rockin’ Sushi & Teppan Grill in Mission Viejo and Chomp Rockin’ Sushi & Teppan Grill in Fullerton. The crabs were infected with a parasite called paragonimus, a flatworm similar to lung fluke.

The parasite travels to the lungs six to ten weeks after ingestion. Symptoms include coughing, diarrhea, breathing problems, chest pain, abdominal pain, fever, and hives. The worm can spread to other organs, including the brain.

According to Wikipedia, about 5,000 Americans die of foodborne illness every year.

Oil price reaches new high

At US$135 a barrel, the price of oil today reached a new high. BBC News has reported that this recent increase is due to figures showing a large decrease in the US petroleum supply.

However, as of 20:00 UTC prices have fallen nearly two percent since yesterday and are back below $131. Over half of oil executives believe that the price will fall to US$100 a barrel toward the end of the year according to an Associated Press report.

The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline also recently increased to a new all-time high, with the price going up 6.9 cents to 379.1 cents per gallon. This was the eighth consecutive week for the US average price to increase.Air France-KLM recently said that they would be challenged by the rising oil price. American Airlines has announced thousands of job cuts.

In addition, the U.S. has seen the cost of food rise significantly, an issue which food manufacturers and retail stores blame on the high price of fuel required for transportation. For example, CNN.com reports a 16.7% increase in the cost of hamburger buns, a staple item for many U.S. families.

Hey everyone, as you know cutting calories in order to lose weight can be really tough. There are many ways however of cutting calories, one such ways of losing weight can be achieve is while you are preparing your food. I came up with a routine that will cut calories while preparing food. Let’s talk about them now!

You should maintain a food diary for at least fifteen days and write everything that you consume in that diary. Now, everything means everything except for plain water. Even if you take your tea and coffee without milk and sugar, it should still go there. At the end of the day review that diary. The review will help you to understand how many unnecessary calories you have consumed, and how you can cut those unnecessary calories.

Find out your daily caloric needs and set a goal for your target daily intake. You can calculate how many calories you need to maintain your current weight easily online. Don’t set yourself up for failure by depriving yourself of too many calories too quickly.

The next step is on how you cook your food. If your going to cook your food in a frying pan with a whole bunch of grease, that is going to pack the calories. It won’t contain as much fat and will contain less calories.

Unfortunately that is not how our bodies are programmed to work. Humans are a survival type of animal and have developed over time so that fat is stored for when it may be required. By not consuming enough calories our bodies think it is starving which makes it want to keep the fat already stored.

The strategy to eating more and cutting calories is to eat those foods that are normally avoided in the diet. These would be the fresh fruits and vegetables. Most people do not like the taste of these and do not find them satisfying. When you are hungry, eating some baby carrots does not give that full feeling that other foods give.

At your workplace, avoid unhealthy habits such as drinking too much tea, coffee or smoking. If you want to live a healthy and a balanced life then you need to make some changes at your work place like drinking 3 to 4 cups of green tea rather than going for a coffee or tea, avoiding junk foods, and drinking a lot of water throughout the day.

10-year-old Oklahoma girl found murdered

Police in Purcell, Oklahoma, about 40 miles (64 km) south of Oklahoma City, on Friday discovered the mutilated body of a ten-year-old girl in the apartment of a man who lived in the same apartment complex.

The body of Jamie Rose Bolin was found in a storage bin in the bedroom closet of Kevin Underwood, 26, said Tim Kuykendall, district attorney for McClain County. Underwood has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and is being held without bail. He has no criminal record or history of mental illness.

The girl was last seen on Wednesday near the Purcell public library, and her family reported her missing that night. Officials waited until Thursday night to issue an Amber Alert because no abduction was reported.

Underwood reportedly drew the suspicion of law enforcement at an information checkpoint set up at the apartment complex. Among the other items found in Underwood’s apartment were a decorative dagger, a hacksaw, barbecue skewers, meat tenderizer, and a wooden cutting board, according to police.

Preliminary autopsy reports find that the girl died of asphyxiation and blunt force trauma to the head. Deep saw marks found on the body indicate that the suspect attempted to decapitate the girl, say authorities. As the body was found unclothed, police also suspect that Bolin was molested after she died.

“Regarding a potential motive, this appears to have been part of a plan to kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse, then dispose of the organs and bones,” Purcell police chief David Tompkins said.

According to Kuykendall, Underwood said he began fantasizing about eating someone a year ago. The prosecutor added that authorities believe “that while she was ultimately chosen to be the victim of this horrific crime, that other people had been targeted and considered,” including a woman and a 5-year-old boy. He added that this was one of the most atrocious crimes he had seen as district attorney, and that he intends to seek the death penalty.

Adele and David Bowie each win five Grammys

On Sunday, British singer Adele won five Grammy Awards at the 59th Grammy Awards event in Los Angeles. David Bowie posthumously won five Grammys.

Adele won Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo and Record of the Year for her song Hello, and Album of the Year for her album 25, becoming the first singer to win the Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year twice.

David Bowie was nominated in five categories — three for his album Blackstar in Best Alternative Music Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, and Best Rock Performance; and two for his song Blackstar, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance. Days after releasing his 25th album, Blackstar, Bowie passed away in January 2016, due to cancer. Before Blackstar, Bowie won a Grammy for his music video Jazzin’ for Blue Jean, and Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, never winning the award in a major category before.

In the event, singer Bruno Mars paid tribute to music icon Prince, replicating style, costumes, and guitar of Prince’s. Minneapolis-based funk band The Time, who had performed with Prince, paid tribute to the singer who passed away in April at the age of 57. Adele, in her performance, paid tribute to George Michael. While performing, Adele stopped, swore, and restarted. She later apologised, saying “I am sorry for swearing and I am sorry for starting again, I can’t mess this up for him[…] I am sorry, I can’t.” British pop singer George Michael died on Christmas Day of heart failure at the age of 53.

Adele was in tears while receiving Grammy for the Album of the Year. In her acceptance speech, she said, “But I can’t possibly accept this award. And I’m very humbled and I’m very grateful and gracious. But my artist of my life is Beyoncé. And this album to me, the ‘Lemonade’ album, is just so monumental. Beyoncé, it’s so monumental. And so well thought out, and so beautiful and soul-baring and we all got to see another side to you that you don’t always let us see. And we appreciate that. And all us artists here, we fucking adore you. You are our light. And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel, is empowering. And you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you.” Other albums in the pool, besides 25 and Lemonade, were Justin Bieber’s Purpose, Drake’s Views, and A Sailor’s Guide To Earth by Sturgill Simpson.

Earlier, while receiving award for the Record of the Year, Adele said, “My dream and my idol is Queen Bee [Beyoncé], and I adore you and you move my soul every single day and you have done for nearly seventeen years”. Other songs nominated in the category were Beyoncé’s Formation, Work by Rihanna, 7 Years by Lukas Graham, and Stressed Out by TWENTY ØNE PILØTS.

Beyoncé received the largest number of nominations for the event — nine — but she won only two. Her album Lemonade won Best Urban Contemporary Album and her song Formation won Best Music Video.

Chance The Rapper won Best New Artist, and claimed Best Rap Performance for No Problem and Best Rap Album for Coloring Book. Chance’s songs were never sold, and were available for free on streaming services.

The new host James Corden took a pratfall on the stairs while entering. The duo TWENTY ØNE PILØTS won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song Stressed Out. Upon announcement, they removed their pants to accept the award. Sharing an incident of watching Grammys before the duo was famous, Tyler Joseph said Josh Dun proposed if they were to receive a Grammy, they would receive it in their underpants as they were in underpants watching the award ceremony at the time. In his acceptance speech, he said, “I want everyone who’s watching at home to know that you could be next. So watch out, because anyone from anywhere can do anything.”

New study claims Stonehenge was a place of healing

Archaeologists Timothy Darvill of Bournemouth University and Geoff Wainwright, President of the Society of Antiquaries, claimed to have found evidence that Stonehenge was once a center of healing. In an excavation conducted at the site, a large number of human remains were found that display signs of physical injury or disease. Study of the teeth from the skeletons indicates that about half of them were from outside the area.

A large number of bluestone or spotted Preseli dolerite chips found during the excavation led the researchers to conclude the stones were venerated for their healing properties. It is believed that about 80 of such bluestone blocks were transported from the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire, Wales to the Salisbury plains. The inner circle of bluestones are the earliest stone structures found in this site. Later bluestones were encircled by the imposing sandstone monoliths of sarsen stones. “It could be that people were flaking off pieces of bluestone, in order to create little bits to take away… as lucky amulets,” said Professor Darvill.

Stonehenge would attract not only people who were unwell, but people who were capable of [healing] them.

Radiocarbon dating indicates that the original bluestone circle was built around 2300 BC. This date coincides with the burial of “Amesbury Archer“, whose tomb was discovered near Stonehenge. The skeleton of this man reveals that he had serious knee injury and tooth problems. Researchers therefore conclude that the Archer came to Stonehenge to be healed.

Dating of charcoal fragments revealed that the site was inhabited as early as 7200 BC by groups of hunter-gatherers. This is more than 3500 years earlier than previously known.

Can I Receive An Attunement By Distance?}

Is distance healing really possible?

The idea that we are able to send healing to one another through time and space is a concept which can be very difficult to even fathom, let alone accept. It is an idea which seems almost science fiction like and is something which is often met with some doubt or perhaps disbelief.

But as we progress on our healing and meditative pathway, and as we start to do more and more distance healing sessions for people (with consistent results!), it does indeed become quite clear that whilst we may not understand this concept clearly enough, it definitely does seem to have a positive effect on the person receiving the distance healing.

We often hear of many success stories of people who are sending & receiving energy by distance and most notably we can see these stories appearing nowadays through the practice of Usui Reiki.

Understanding the process of an attunement

Now that we understand a little more about distance healing, the next step is to understand what an attunement does. What happens during an attunement and is this so different from distance healing?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term attunement, it is typically described as a very sacred process whereby the vibration of an individual (or a living thing) is being raised or attuned to a particular set of divinely guided energetic frequencies.

If that all sounds way too complicated, you may think of the attunement as being a process of receiving access to a very special set of energetic healing tools. Once you have received the attunement, you can then call on these healing frequencies through a variety of ways. Invariably, we are often taught to access these energies through meditation, self-healing and in doing healing work for others i.e. in a healing session environment.

In very basic terms, it is this giving access part which makes the attunement so sacred and so very blessed. By receiving an attunement, it can help to strengthen our connection to the energies being offered through a particular energy based healing system.

Why do I even need an attunement?

It is often said that you must receive an attunement from a fully qualified lineage holder of the energy based healing system you are learning before commencing with your practice. This is a most important point and it is sometimes something which some people ask why it is deemed to be so necessary.

From a philosophical perspective, we should be able to open ourselves up to receiving any kind of energy based healing practices without receiving an attunement. After all, we are all one inter-connected source of divine energy so how can anyone truly say that you cant connect with these energies? And this is most certainly a very valid point!

From a practical perspective though, if you try to practice any form of Reiki or energy based healing without the attunement, you are not really practising with the same intensity as you could be. You havent received the special access to these energies that the attunement provides you with.

As an analogy, you can think of the Reiki energies as being like the sun. You are the grass receiving the lovely sunlight on a clear sunny day. You are warm and receiving benefits. Now think of the attunement as a piece of glass which magnifies the suns rays so that you can quickly feel the heat. This is a good way of thinking about the attunement process and your teacher.

Can I receive an attunement by distance?

The answer here is a little bit of a grey area as we are seeing many newer forms of Reiki and energy based healing offering their attunements by distance. The more traditional forms of Reiki such as Usui Reiki and Karuna Reiki suggest that attunements be provided in person.

Most people would generally agree though that if you can give healing by distance then it is surely possible to also give and receive attunements by distance. And this does definitely seem to be a common-sense answer here, especially as we factor in the divinely guided aspects of these healing practices and the interconnected-ness of all.

Add to this a vast array of lovely and uplifting distance attunement experiences which have been given many times in these newer forms of Reiki (refer below) and you may start to lean towards the idea that to receive an attunement by distance is actually no different than receiving an attunement in person. As always, it is our intention which is so important after all.

From our own experiences, we would also add that the efficiency and effectiveness of the distance healing attunement also seems to strengthen as the senders vibration is raised and expanded.

So let us now look at a few examples of some of these newer forms of energy based healing where attunements can be received by distance. We note here also that most of these practices are offered by donation or suggested donation.

i) Celestine Reiki:

Celestine Reiki is a very uplifting and invigorating set of energies with all attunements being offered by distance and by donation. These attunements are being offered as part of the Unified Pathway To Light and help to connect you with the deeply loving and blissful energies of the new consciousness. The practices are very simple and deeply purifying and can be completed in around 10-15 minutes.

ii) Kundalini Reiki:

Brought through by Mr Ole Gabrielson in Denmark. This mode of healing is offered to recipients by distance for a suggested donation of around $40 per attunement. These attunements combine the Kundalini energies from within us with the universal energy which is Reiki to form Kundalini Reiki. This system is taught over 3 levels and often is less than a week. The healing practices are very simple and easy to learn.

iii) Pathway To Light – The Golden Mile

A series of very unique (and free!) healing attunements for the new consciousness – all offered for free online / by distance. In this system of healing, you are led through a series of healing based attunements which have been divinely designed to uplift your vibration closer towards the love of the new consciousness. There are no meditational or self-healing practices required and each attunement is completed in around 15 minutes. This is now being offered in one very simple and easy ebook format.

iv) Maitrijusha & Maitrijusha(Ni)

A beautiful addition to any healing toolkit. These teachings provide you with a beautiful cleanse as well as a set of two very special Master Healing energies which are used to combine other energetic frequencies. These teachings are best suited to people who are working with many forms of energy based healing.

Conclusions

Whether you can receive an attunement by distance or not depends on your own personal preferences and the type of energy based healing practice that you are wishing to receive an attunement for.

For those of you who are wishing to receive a Usui Reiki attunement, generally these are given in person, although you can now find different Reiki Masters on the internet willing to offer you attunements by distance.

For other energy based healing practices, as you can see from the above examples, you can find a number of different energy based healing systems that provide you with by distance attunements, often by donation (or suggested donation).

Please just take caution before you pay money to someone claiming to offer distance attunements. We would humbly suggest that you do an appropriate amount of inquiry first to ensure that you are in fact receiving an attunement rather than just an airy promise before you make your payment.

Please be sure to review any website carefully and examine whether there is love & light being offered to you in these practices and whether the Master is of a vibrational understanding of the practices that are being taught.
